TOKYO Artisan Exhibition
Tokyo Umbrella

Kazuki Kumasaka
Mr. Kumasaka was originally engaged in leatherwork but—wanting a new challenge—he moved on to umbrella-making. The complexity of umbrella-making, which involves several artisans, including those making the umbrella bones, handles, and fabric respectively, as well as those who assemble these various parts into the finished product—is what interests him. He makes it his mission to protect and perpetuate the high quality of these hand-crafted items, and at the same time infuses everything he makes with his own style and with a high level of efficiency. All told, he is taking the way of the artisan to a new level.
