TOKYO Artisan Exhibition
Woodblock Prints

Masami Tano
The turning point for Ms. Tano came three years ago. She saw a woodblock printer on television, at which time she became enthralled with the art of woodblock prints, and decided to take the plunge into the world of this type of art. At present, she is receiving superior training from a master, and at the same time taking the initiative to develop the inner secret of the artisan, which is in essence to look, pay attention, and be alert at all times. She also keeps in mind something her master said: that woodblock printers are “not the same as artists.” Delving into the profound world of Edo woodblock printing, she is on a mission to make this art known as broadly as possible.
