Haruo Kaneko
Mr. Kaneko has perpetuated his family business, established in 1940, for the past 24 years. He goes about his work—and continues to hone his technique—remembering the happy faces of her clients. The materials he uses for the mountings are Japanese washi paper, cloth, water, and glue. Despite the appearance of simplicity, sophisticated brushing technique is required for success. Alongside technique, Mr. Kaneko has also developed his own aesthetic for his art, which involves parts made by the other artisans contributing to the finished product. His role is to then manifest his skills by putting it all together—and this is his emphasis.
