– Five days to enjoy traditional crafts of Tokyo –
We will open a limited time showroom at KITTE

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will open a showroom for a limited time to promote the appeal of the traditional crafts of Tokyo to a wide range of people in Japan and abroad.

Under the title “Traditional crafts of Tokyo SESSION WEEK – Five days to enjoy traditional crafts of Tokyo –,” sales, demonstrations, hands-on production, and talk shows of Tokyo’s traditional crafts will be held at KITTE in front of Tokyo Station, where many people gather for business, shopping, and sightseeing. The event will feature exhibitions, demonstrations, hands-on production, and sales of Tokyo’s traditional crafts.

Please take this opportunity to see the world-class traditional crafts of Tokyo.

Tokyo Hand-Carved Seals [Demonstration of hand seal carving production process]
The production process of Tokyo hand-carved seals by seal engravers, (design, character input, rough carving, finishing), the beauty of the characters expressed in a 16.5 mm circle, the detailed process and delicate carving work to reproduce them.

Tokyo Umbrella [Process of attaching the fabric to the umbrella bone]
You attach the fabric to the umbrella bone, which is the production process of Tokyo Umbrella.
Edo Embroidery [Embroidery Production Demonstration]
Various embroidery techniques such as Ranten stitching, 2-Ranten stitching, Cross Ranten stitching, Sashi stitching, Sagara stitching, etc. are used on pongee Nagoya obi to create circular dot embroidery.

Edo Chintz [Demonstration of stencil dyeing and printing of chintz]
Demonstration of Edo chintz dyeing, which involves layering and printing multiple pattern papers to create a pattern.
Edo Woodblock Prints [Demonstration of woodblock making and printing]
Rather than using advanced techniques, woodblock prints are used to create everyday items for everyday use. Small tools used in the process will also be made and demonstrated.

Artisans Talk Show

We will hold a talk show with artisans of the Tokyo traditional crafts.
In addition, at the end of the talk show, there will be a quiz game based on what the artisans talked about. The winners of the final round will receive great prizes such as traditional crafts!
